Alternative Medicine for Acid Reflux 67

There's a lot of information out there about acid reflux. You see advertisements on television for the "magic purple pill" that not only ends acid reflux, but actually heals the damage already done to the esophagus. And I have no doubt that that magic purple pill works.

But there are other natural ways in which to treat acid reflux. Acid reflux is different from heartburn or indigestion. There's a hot (burning) sensation in the very back of the throat caused by stomach acid bubbling up from the stomach.
Alternative Medicine for Acid Reflux

Chamomile
slippery elm
fennel
lavender
There are a great many lifestyle-change remedies for acid reflux out there. Some say that simply avoiding foods that trigger acid reflux will do the trick. Others go further and insist that one must modify habits….smoking, drinking, etc. if acid reflux is to be "cured."

However, acid reflux, or "gerd," isn't a new, 21st-century problem. It's been plaguing mankind for eons, so there are natural remedies that are known to work.

  1. Two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar in eight ounces of water before meals
  2. Two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar and enough baking soda to neutralize the acid in eight ounces of water
  3. An apple (including the skin) before or after a meal
  4. Applesauce before or after a meal
  5. Apple juice before or after a meal
  6. Aloe vera juice

Herbs that are known to relieve acid reflux are:

  • Chamomile
  • slippery elm
  • fennel
  • angelica root
  • ginger root
  • catnip
  • meadowsweet along with peppermint
  • lavender
  • chicory root
Some well-known herbalists say that a combination of peppermint, lavender, and aniseed when made into a tea is extremely effective in stopping the symptoms of acid reflux.
